Another CHBC x YETI day has been run and wow, what a day it was!

The dawn patrol crew had decided to set up right behind the backpackers at the hoey – a nice short stroll to our presso and brown lemonades at the end of the day. This was perhaps our biggest work crew EVER so we wish to thank each of you who turned up before the sun and set up tents, BBQ, speakers and flags. As a community that relies on volunteers we really felt you guys had our backs and it was epic! The sun and waves showed up for a glorious winters day. Lefts and rights to choose from on both the banks made for some fun little waves all day, especially just before and after that high tide.

We welcomed Ruby to our Rippers division joining Sara and the boys, she had a blast for her first comp and thanks to our so reliable water safety team for taking care of our Rippers in the water.

Once again in the 10 boys Neo Pelmore laid down some chunky scores in his first round (a 16.50!) and continued his wining streak by claiming another win in his division. Great to see our junior members still frothing in the cooler months, but with 22 degree water and steamers, it’s quite inviting! Ivy Shanahan is on fire in the 10 girls and all her practice is paying off, winning 3 of the events this year.

The 12 boys is always fun to watch with the boys being such great mates pushing each others surfing to new levels, with Jetty showing glimpses of his powerful style taking the win and Sagey did the same in the junior girls.

Our 16 boys were frothing throughout the day, and after having the opening heats, they managed to save some energy for the final. A very close one up until the last half of the heat when Jarrah got a winner. Oscar, Taj and Tank were all close in scores.

Our Yeti drink station was set up so we could all fill up our bottles from the YETI 10 – sending a massive thanks to the YETI crew who supplied the big esky and each finalist received a customised CHBC YETI bottle or coffee mug – we are so very lucky to have YETI on board with us again this year.

In the old boys Pete Courtney our travelling judge ended his day with a finals appearance to score a YETI mug and Stoney took the win again over Nobbsy & Macca. Tom, Creed, Carter and Benji had a classic CHBC Open final with Tom getting on top with a 12.90 over Creed’s 12.70.

Sasha is having a cracking back half of the year with another win in the Open Womens ready for Seas the Day with the twins soon.

After our presso, we had a little moment with Stevie Dean to thank the guys who rescued him after his heart attack in the water – he had us all crying, but we are so glad he’s back on board with us. He spent his whole day on the mic giving our surfers all the info they needed, score and time updates and shouting out those all important sponsors.

So much appreciation goes to YETI, our committee (esp our Prez /VP Carls & Bryn)  and our army of volunteers – without any of you we fall down, so THANKYOU to you all. Yesterday was a day of true connection and community, and boy those vibes were high!
