What a day! With tricky conditions early on, the call was made to move the event to Diggers Beach — and it turned out to be the right move. Huge thanks to the setup crew and Ian Klaus for putting in a massive effort and helping shape such a great day.
The Inter-Club Challenge has been talked about for years, and with the backing of all the club presidents, committees, and our Surfing Region legend Dan Heather, it finally came together. Coffs Boardriders were stoked to host the first one and get the ball rolling for what’s sure to become a regular on the local surf calendar.
From the first siren to the final tag, the surfing was tight. Scores were neck and neck all day, with Coffs, Sawtell, and Woopi trading blows right down to the wire. Brad kept the caffeine flowing, while BBQ legends Lexi and Tracey (and the awesome crew — Nic, Tilly, Keah, and others) kept everyone fed and happy. The brekkie wraps were a massive hit!
The day wrapped up with an action-packed Open Tag Final, where Sawtell Boardriders came out on top thanks to some ripping from Rio and solid surfing across the team. Once the site was packed down, everyone headed to the Hoey Moey for presentations and a few well-earned cold ones.

A huge thanks to everyone who helped make the first North Coast Inter-Club Challenge such a success. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!
Big shout-out to Sujohn for bringing the ski and handling water safety with Lindz, legends. The series is off to a flying start, spirits are high, and it’s shaping up to be a big part of our local surfing calendar.
Next up: Sawtell will host next year’s challenge. Enjoy the win, Sawtell, both Coffs and Woopi will be coming in hot for the next one!
