The groms of the Coffs Harbour Boardriders put on a stellar performance at the Junior Kirra Teams Challenge this passed weekend (21-23 September). The Girls team came away with a 4th place finish and the boys team came away with an 8th place finish.
The sea of red swamped the beach with they’re infectious team spirit and created a super exciting atmosphere. The club song was sung at the top of our lungs for our club members that won they’re heats. Between the warm weather and fun the competitors of the Coffs Harbour Boardriders stayed focused and brought back incredible results and surfed to an extremely high standard.
Club wins- These competitors surfed incredibly and the results reflected that! We sung our song loud and proud for these boys and girls!
Wins in the girls division-
Angela Keighran
Rosie Smart
Bonnie Hills
Wins in the boys division-
Taj Watson
Emmett Street
Will Martin
Standout performances- These are some of the surfers that rose to the occasion and made they’re club proud. These surfers include: Angela Keighran, Samahra Bye, Olive Goode and Ryley Smidt. After not competing for a long time Angela Keighran faced sharp WQS competitors and blew them out of the water with her finesse and took the win for her club. Samahra Bye also came back from a break from competition and held her own competing with Aussie champs and another seasoned QS surfer. Olive Goode surfed against girls 5 years her senior, at 9 years of age taking on the 14 & under division and didn’t let it faze her as she ripped all 15 minutes of the heat. Ryley Smidt was close to a win for his club but posted a duo of excellent scores surfing his way to a 15+ point heat total out of a possible heat total of 20 points to claim 2nd.
Everyone had a fantastic time at Duranbah and we are super proud of everyone who surfed and supported! The future looks bright for the Coffs Coast surfing community with such a deep pool of talent coming through. Cant express how grateful we are for the collection of sharp competitors we have coming through the club!
Big thank you to the Kirra Boardriders Club for running the event and all the sponsors that supported the running of this event.
