Competition 2 for the Coffs Harbour Boardriders Club delivered a proper test for competitors, with Diggers Beach turning on challenging conditions on Sunday March 29th. Large, turbulent surf made every heat a battle, with waves hard to read and even harder to capitalise on. It was a day where patience mattered, luck played a role, and grit was rewarded.
Across all divisions, surfers rose to the occasion. In the Under 10’s Boys, Neo Pelmore took out the win ahead of Bodhi Spencer, Joel Pope and Jaxson Dohlen. The Under 10’s Girls saw Ivy Shanahan claim first place, with Grace Crowley, Hannah Pope and Georgina Dohlen rounding out the results.
The Under 12’s Boys division was stacked, with Hudson Matthews finishing on top, followed by Kingston Williams and Jye Lawrence Rooney III, while Bodhi Pelmore and Cade Jarrett also put in strong performances. In the Junior Girls, Matilda Harrigan handled the conditions best, finishing ahead of Sage White, Elise Carrie and Alana Archer.
The older divisions continued to push the level despite the tricky lineup. Jet Dean won the Under 14’s Boys, with Max McCarthy, Lewis Cole and Huwyn Batcheldor close behind. In the Under 18’s Boys, Carter Crowley claimed first, followed by Jarrah White, Tye Morrison and Max Crowley.
The Rippers division had Dane Magill finishing first, ahead of Emil Burton, Guy Thio, Sara Bergen and Ruby Greenaway.
In the Over 45’s, Jay White took the win, with Darren McAnally, Ricky Grimson and Daniel Stone all surfing well in the tough conditions.
The Open Women’s division saw Carly White come out on top, with Lyla Freudenstein, Sheree Herington and Keah Harrigan following. In Open Men B, Callum Mackie secured first ahead of Adam Percival, Kurt Daley and Phil Dawson. The Open Men’s division capped off the day, with Hamish Harrigan taking the win, followed by Madison Williams and Hunter Winkler.
It was a day that tested everyone in the water, but also highlighted the strength of the club across all age groups. From the youngest groms to the seasoned competitors, Coffs Harbour Boardriders continues to show depth, resilience and a genuine love for surfing.
