We were truly blessed on sunday with the sun shining for what seemed like the first time in weeks!
The dawn patrol crew set up at Parkies, looking alot like mini Margs well before it was light to have everything fired up, ready to rock as our competitors and families arrived. Always grateful to the morning crew who are ever so reliable to set up in the dark.
We were expecting a slow increase in the size of the southerly swell through out the day which was a bit slower than we hoped – we had other highlights planned with Callum Robson wrapping up his Project 06 with our lucky groms.
We had a little Q&A and trivia session saturday with our groms and Callum where he shared his tips, wisdom and knowledge to all those who attended. Big thank you to those who got involved and came along to this event, our committee works hard to get our kids some really wonderful opportunities and so great to see them all froth and even get a cheeky little surf out Parky after with Cal. Feedback was awesome and everyone who attended walked away learning something new about competitive surfing. Our groms threw some curly questions at Cal which he loved their eagerness and froth levels were just so high.
Our CHBC kids who have qualified for state tittle later this month in the U12 – U18 divisions were given a 2 hour workshop with heat strategies and video coaching session. Again, such valuable information was shared so thank you to the parents who brought their kids along.
On sunday Cal was ready and available on the sand, having pre & post heat discussions with our lucky groms. Really helping them out with tips to calm their nerves, help with strategy and observations of the line up.
Our junior girls division were absolute standouts yesterday with some of the little chargers (with dad’s help!) making their way out the back getting some crackers. Hudson Matthews took out the 10 boys – another firecracker heat yesterday with some of the boys also dropping some big numbers in the early rounds.
The Ripperz were on fire as well with Dane outdoing his fellow competitors for the 1st placing certificate with a heat total of 11.30. Jay White got 2 in a row in the 45’s and Chozzy took his first win in ages to take Open B. Sash was our open womens winner again.
Our CHBC team really pulled it together yesterday for an epic day of competing. Thanks to Tracey our OG BBQ Queen stepping in for Lex and to Ally for being on the tools all day too. Most of our set up and running crew are active surfers in our club so thank you to our families who volunteer to cover jobs when it’s time for them to surf. It’s what our community is all about and our days just don’t happen without volunteers to help.
June 15th – let’s do it all again!!
