Competition 3 for the Coffs Harbour Boardriders Club saw members take on a challenging day of surf at Park Beach on Sunday April 12th. With a solid 2 to 4 foot swell on offer and two banks working לאורך the beach, competitors were kept on their toes from the first heat to the finals.
A strong southerly wind added another layer of difficulty, creating plenty of water movement and making wave selection a real challenge. For some of the younger surfers, the conditions pushed well into double overhead territory, and it was impressive to see them step up and take on the bigger sets with confidence. It was a day that demanded patience, commitment and a willingness to have a crack.
Across the divisions, there were standout performances from both emerging groms and experienced club members. In the Open Mens A division, Jayke Sharp claimed the win ahead of Hamish Harrigan, Hunter Winkler and Creed Smart. Open Mens B was taken out by Kyle Gilbert, with Darren McCarthy, Ryan Hoy and Isaac Harrigan close behind.
The Open Women’s division saw Carly White continue her strong form, finishing first ahead of Lyla Freudenstein, Frankie Freudenstein and Sheree Herington. In the 45’s Men, Jay White led the way, with Daniel Stone, Darren McAnnally and Peter Lancaster rounding out the results.
The next generation put on a great show throughout the day. Guy Thio took out the Rippers division, followed by Dane Magill, Kye and Ruby Greenaway. In the Under 18 Boys, Jarrah White finished first ahead of Max Crowley, Zavier Hill and Xander Hutchby.
Sage White won the Junior Girls division, with Matilda Harrigan, Elise Carrie, Alana Archer and Amber Fletcher all surfing well in tough conditions. Huwyn Batcheldor claimed the Under 14 Boys, followed by Max MacCarthy, Lewis Cole and Otis Harrigan.
In the Under 12 Boys, Bodhi Pelmore took the win ahead of Jye Lawrence Rooney, Hudson Matthews and Kingstone Williams. The Under 10 Girls saw Ive Shanahan finish first, with Hannah Pope, Claire Carrie and Stevie Janus close behind. In the Under 10 Boys, Bodhi Spencer claimed the win ahead of Neo Pelmore, Joel Pope and Banks Nealon.
It was a full day of testing surf, but the club showed its depth and spirit once again, with every competitor rising to the occasion.
