The 2023 Coffs Harbour Boardriders Presentation Day was an extraordinary event that will be cherished by all who attended. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated CHBC helpers who arrived early in the morning to work their magic, transforming the Hoey Moey beer garden into a breathtaking “Red & White” wonderland, complete with a touch of elegance in the form of a red carpet entrance.
The festivities began at midday with a surf session featuring none other than surfing legends Joel Parkinson, Macy Callaghan, and Ethan Ewing. A huge shoutout to Coopers Surf and Billabong for making this incredible experience possible. The grom’s had a blast catching waves for a few hours before it was time to prepare for the main event.
The stage was impeccably set for an unforgettable afternoon, with the charismatic Macho taking the microphone to kick things off. We smoothly proceeded through the division awards, extending our gratitude to our sponsors and the surfing royalty who graciously presented the awards.
As the awards ceremony continued, the Hoey Moey stepped up to the plate with delectable food and invaluable support, contributing significantly to the success of the presentation. Special thanks go to Dan Whiffen and the Hoey team for their outstanding assistance.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the division first-place winners receiving brand new JS Surfboards! However, it was the Rippers division that stole the show with an inspiring display of generosity. Guy Thio, who had already clinched first place in the division, drew another winner’s name from a hat and selflessly gifted his new board to Sara Bergen. This heartwarming moment, brought tears to the eyes of many in attendance, Parko later commenting to a few in attendance of how truly awesome it was.
Among the other notable winners, Rosie Smart was crowned the representative surfer of the year, and her gracious video acceptance speech played on the big screen. Creed Smart secured the John Blanch Perpetual Junior Boys Trophy, while Carly White received the prestigious Hillary Melittas Perpetual Trophy.
The stage also hosted engaging interviews, with our President Carly White asking probing questions to Macy Callaghan, and Andrew Lindsay from Coopers Surf delving into the thoughts of Joel Parkinson and Ethan Ewing. It was a true privilege to have these elite athletes and remarkable individuals join us for our presentation.
A particularly touching moment was when Aaron Martin received a well-deserved Life Member award and delivered an honourable acceptance video speech on the big screen. Bryn Goode was humbled as this year’s Club Person of the Year.
We owe a massive thank you to Ventoux Cycles for generously giving away not one, but two fantastic bikes as part of our lucky door awards. Mick Taylor and Kate Blair were the lucky winners. In total, over $25,000 worth of prizes were distributed this year.
Furthermore, we extend our appreciation to Macaroni’s Resort for their continued support over the years. This year’s lucky surf trip winner was the Crowley family, very deserving winners.
The day was a massive success, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming you all to next year. We owe a special debt of gratitude to the set-up committee and everyone who put in tireless effort to make this day possible. Our events coordinator, Nikki Crowley, skilfully led her team, which included Tracey Schultz, Carly White, Keah Harrigan, Emma Dean, Raegs Morrison, Alison Hammond, Sarah Corsalini, Lauryn Nicholls, Ian Klaus, and Bryn. Their dedication was instrumental in making this day unforgettable.
Massive Thanks to Bow, Duncan, Steve, Parko, Macy and Ethan from Billabong for always getting behind our club and giving us endless support.
