Comp 2 of CHBC was held at Diggers with a wet and rainy day forecast the waves didn’t let us down with some really clean waves and sections coming through for our heats.

The rain certainly didn’t get in our way on Sunday with SO MANY of you showing up early to help set up. A big shout out to the Open B’s and our committee for rising early and getting the show underway right on 7am. A little vid update from assistant contest director Steve Dean on insta to let us know the conditions and location for the day was very welcome.

With a few extra sign ups from our first round it was proving to be a big day with extra heats to get through. We hauled the BBQ down onto the sand and Lexi and the team cooked up some delicious meatball subs which were just amazing and kept our surfers fueled up for the day. A big thanks to all the volunteers who signed up to spend some time helping the BBQ

In the Open A’s it was so good to see our former prez Wink join the line up and showed us he still has great form making it all the way to the final with our young guns Jayke, Will & Jack. Less than 1 point separated Jayke in 1st to Will in 2nd place. Our current Prez Carly had her fellow competitors in combo but they still came out smiling after a fun heat together – our open women have such a great vibe in the water.

The junior divisions are always hotly contested and sunday was no different with our 16 boys division being a very tight result with Carter, Luca and Hamish all finishing so very close in scores.
Great to see our O45’s division expand this year – so awesome to have our head judge Pete compete with the old boys and to see Ross Pelmore sprint down the beach after his heat to assist his boys Bodhi & Neo in the 8’s. So cool to see the other Neo surf unassisted in the 8’s whilst Noa and Kingston had a little battle out the back with both their dad’s selecting great waves and giving huge pushes – the division to watch for major improvements this year!

We really must say a huge thank you to the many hands who contributed to set up and pack up on sunday, we had a really tight schedule to be at the Hoey by 4pm and we could not have done it without every person who arrived before 7am to assist – so THANK YOU!!

All results are now published on live heats and even more exiting is our club challenge round coming up in March. This is one not to miss and it’s your chance to surf against all members of our club, not just your division plus a very special guest will be joining us as always. Who knows who you will be up against – father against son or daughter or one of the Ripperz or A grade legends – it’s an all in battle for our 2024 CHBC Club Champ!
